Professor Antonio STRATI Trento University Trento Italy

This second aesthetics and management EIASM research workshop is hosted by Pierre Guillet de Monthoux, Stockholm University and Antonio Strati, University of Trento. The first EIASM workshop in Siena helped us map the field of aesthetics and organization (see e.g. special issues of Human Relations (2002; 55:7) and Consumption, Markets and Culture (2002; 5:1)). Since we have witnessed an avalanche of academic interests (e.g. on-going research projects apart, there are special tracks at EGOS, EURAM, SCOS and AMA conferences) and business-art experiments making use of aesthetics and art as metaphors, sources of new products and events as well as foundations for creative managerial competence.
It is therefore high time both to map and critically investigate the new flield of flow between aesthetics, art and management. What are the effects of institutionalizing trends in “design” and “branding” into political concepts as “creative industries” or “experience economies”? What are the impacts of aesthetics and art on management practice and organizational life? How can art and aesthetics contribute to creativity and play in economic life? Will these developments make cultural, economic and educational policies converge? What are the consequences of the industrialization and incorporation of art and aesthetics? Will flows between economy and art turn management into a sort of corporate curating? How can aesthetics help enlarge art into critical creativity supporting ethical judgment in economies? Are there links between the beautiful, the sublime and good, true and responsible actions?

CALL FOR PAPERS AND PERFORMANCES |
The second EIASM workshop on aesthetics and organization should assess and analyze the scope and relevance of such concerns for future economic organizing and management research and education. This can be done by presenting a written text or preparing and presenting a performance at the workshop. As in the first workshop we therefore hereby issue a call for abstracts for both papers and performance.
The deadline to submit is over.

The GATTIERES HANDBOOK has been written by Pierre Guillet de Monthoux and Antonio Strati. It already depicts you the special atmosphere of your 3 days in Gattières and gives your plenty of useful practical details about your stay.

LOCATION :
The workshop will be held in the small Provencal village Gattières. Gattières only has 800 inhabitants and its medieval setting with three bars, three restaurants and the obligatory "terrain de boule" will hopefully provide us with a stimulating natural setting for fruitful discussions. The village is situated only twenty minutes drive from the airport of Nice Côte-d´Azur, France.
Gattières hosts an opera festival, a contemporary minimalist art space and is pretty close to several world famous art venues of which some will be integrated as resources for our workshop.
TIME :
Registration and workshop opening will take place on Sunday July 20 and the workshop will go on until Wednesday July 23, 2003.
