In order to strengthen its role as an academic institution in the field of management, the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) is recruiting a Scientific Director.

The Scientific Director should be keen on shaping the scientific direction of EIASM. This includes strategic development as well as direct actions in network, resources and activities development and implementation.

The Scientific Director will become a member of the EIASM Steering Committee and will work closely with the Administrative Director.

The position is full-time or part-time, and may be maintained in combination with an academic position at a university, etc. In case of a part-time position, the Scientific Director should be located nearby for convenient commuting to the offices of EIASM in Brussels.

We are looking for candidates in mid-career or nearing the end of their careers, preferably with experience in working with EIASM and/or participating in EIASM events. The ideal candidate should have a good track record in academia. Experience of managerial or administrative roles in academia is a merit.

The salary of the Scientific Director is negotiable.

Sad news from the University of Mannheim

On 28^th December 2011, Professor Andreas Al-Laham, passed away unexpectedly at the age of forty-nine.

Prof. Al-Laham was about to step into the post of EIBA President-Elect in 2012 and would have gone on to become the EIBA President and Conference Chair of EIBA 2013 in Mannheim; however, this is sadly not to be, and EIBA is currently seeking another host and chair for its 2013 Annual Conference, as well as a national representative for Germany to sit on the EIBA Board. On behalf of EIASM, EIBA, and those who knew him professionally, sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Andreas Al-Laham – he will be sorely missed.

Peter Buckley, Professor of International Business, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year 2012 Honours List “for services to higher education, international business and research”.

Professor Buckley is Director of the Centre for International Business (CIBUL) and is recognised as a world-authority on international business. He has written 26 books, and has held visiting professorships in universities around the world. In 1998, he was awarded an Honorary Professorship at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in China. In 2010, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Sweden's University of Uppsala, and the same year he received the prestigious Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professorship at UIBE.

With the support of the Managerial and Organizational Cognition Division of the Academy of Management (AoM), and the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM), Professor Robert Galavan, Head of the School of Business of the National University of Ireland Maynooth is pleased to convene an exciting two-day conference dedicated to furthering research at the frontiers of managerial and organizational cognition. The concept is simple and compelling: a casual, low-key yet energizing, research-focused, developmentally-oriented meeting of managerial and organizational cognition scholars to advance our collective scholarship and to build a stronger worldwide community of MOC scholars.
